Modeling a small creek

Charlie,

Excellent article and very timely!  I'm going to be adding a creek to my layout and was just starting to look for info on the "how to".  I can't wait for part 2!

Nice creek and an even better

Nice creek and an even better bridge.  I like the way a lot of Oakhill has been left as open space, instead of jamming in a lot of structures. Looks like a fun railroad to operate.

Grade Crossing needs to be lower.

While I love the look of your work the grade crossing sounds like it just even with the tops of the rails.  This is fine for looks and pure opertions.  However most modelers should try to get the tops of the ties slightly lower than the rails.  This is due to the occasional use of rail cleaners like a bright boy or just a masonite skid type cleaner.  If the ties do not have enough clearence then the cleaning will rub the tie and remove the stain ruining all your hard work.

My King Post Bridge

Hi, Charlie,

Great work. I like the Kingpost bridge, too.

Here's a somewhat larger version I built as a foot bridge over a normally-dry creek in Arizona:
