Back Issues

Charlie:

Thanks for pointing out the tip on back issues. There have been many times when I have wanted to access a past article, but I only had a general idea of when it appeared in MRH. Your tip will make this process much faster. Thanks!

Don

Re: Back Issues

Simply go to The Railroad Index and ask for what you want. All issues, including this latest one, are indexed there.

Search for "mrh stationary decoder"

I wonder why a reader would contact MRH about my index. I conceived it, I designed it, I built it over more than two decades, I maintain it, I administer it, I own it. On the search page left side menu there is a selection "Contact Us". A query sent through there will get directly to the people with the answers. As An example, if I have a Chevy car and I think there is a problem with it, I don't go to the Ford dealer with questions.

As for the word "stationary", it most certainly IS in the index. The Railroad Index (its proper name) points the user to not only MRH articles, but also to print magazines, online howtos, online photos, forum items with relevance, etc. So if your reader had wanted to search beyond MRH, "stationary decoder" would have found some articles.

As for searching the MRH forum, I searched for "stationary decoder" and "stationary decoders". These searches returned what look like totally separate lists.

Forum items may be indexed (try a search for "forum dcc"), but I would not want to see ALL the items indexed, as a great number of them are merely chit-chat, with no relevant information. If you check the items returned by the searches in the previous paragraph, you will see what I mean.

Within The Railroad Index, you also have the advantage of tag expansion, called Auto-Tagging, e.g. in this instance:
"dcc" gets expanded to "dcc digital command control"
"ho" gets expanded to "ho scale gauge gage 1:87 1:87.1 87:1 87.1:1 1/87 1/87th 3.5mm 3.5 mm"
"turnouts" gets expanded to "turnout turnouts switch switches point points"
As you can plainly see, it expands the keywords to cover variations in what people search for.

Indexing forum items

On The Railroad Index, I have indexed some of the MRH forum items that have real meat on their bones, more or less equivalent to an article. To see them all, search on "mrh forum".
