Excellent article

Thank you for the one evening project.  I am just reaching the point where I nee to add scenery to a stream bed and this will work wonders.

Small Rock Outcroppings...

Charlie, I love these quick articles but one thing's missing ... rocks first or grass first?  Also congrats on the editorship!

Either way...

Jeff,

I've done it both ways.

Grass first:

If the surface with the grass is flat gluing flat bottom rocks on it works fine. Use full strength white glue and twist a little as you push them down.  If the surface is irregular it's best to do the rocks first then try to fill the gaps with something before doing the grass. Something can be caulk, plaster, or chunks of ground foam to hide the joint between rock and the ground.

Rocks first:

Just be careful when you paint on the glue that you don't get it on the rocks. Then go ahead and apply the grass.

Scenery isn't hard. Just hard to get motivated enough to start.

glue & Clamps or Weights -

I found a cute trick for irregular objects... If I find "clamping" them while the glue sets is difficult, I bring out a draw-string bag I keep with my clamps... It's filled with BBs (Shot for hunting Or fishing is good, but that's not the point...)

The Bag falls across the surface of whatever... and the contents can be adjusted to put its weight On the object being glued as desired.

The bag can be suspended across the apex of an object to glue onto a near-vertical face, too.  (Think of the letter 'A', with the bag's drawstrings attached to the left Upright, the bag draped over the Apex, and the contents' weight applied to the right upright.)

Now, the only thing you can't do is make this work Upwards!

(I also like to use the foaming effect of Gorilla glue to fill some gaps. But note:  it can go to excess, and become a mess to clean up!)

Peter
