What I love about MRH!!!

This is what I love about MRH, the fact that there can be a full length interview, video, tons of pictures track plan and a list of structures on just one layout. If this was in a paper magazine it would have got maybe 5 pages, MRH gave this great layout 17 pages. WOW!!!

Thank you Gustav for your excellent coverage and thank you MRH for publishing.

I look forward to more great layout tours and interviews in the future !!

I second that!

This is a great insight into Jim's layout and I thank the MRH staff for doing this project.  Great tip on how he did the quarry and the blocks- a jig saw upside-down in a vise...who would have thought of that?  I've been struggling with straight cuts in foam and I think that method is a winner.

Also, this is the first time I've seen video of 'exhaust' coming out of a steam loco's stack.  The Q-Tip method? It wasn't mentioned by Jim.  Maybe a video of this method is already been out there and I hadn't seen it, and I was sure it would look cheesy moving around a layout as opposed to a static image.  I was wrong!

Thanks MRH for giving us the tour, the insight, and hearing from the owner/operator himself

Smoke

I really liked both the article and the video, but the smoke, to me, did look very cheesy. I think it would look better without it, at least in videos.

Operation

Outstanding layout!  I, too, appreciate the interview plus the video plus the track plan.  Will there be any future articles/video on the operating scheme Jim uses?  I would really like to hear how he operates his railroad.

Excellent Article

This is one of the best articles that I have had the pleasure of reading, watching and hearing! The combination of written interview, photography, video and layout design has given Jim's layout life outside of his train room. This superb feature article has the good fortune to be based on a true craftsman and Jim your work is incredible. I agree with you Jim, mistakes are experience in training, Well Done!!! Thank you for sharing your work. Roger
