N scale column

I miss the N scale column. Any plans on bringing it back? Just curious but do you know the % of subscribers who are N scalers? I appreciate that the column was 'scale specific' and if that was the reason for ending it,I understand.

N Scale Readers

Per our latest reader survey, ~20% of our readers are N scale.

But then they're hard to find because they're a lot smaller than the other scale readers (except the Z guys) ... sorry, Couldn't resist. (wink)

We'd love it if someone else could volunteer to help do N scale column, maybe several somebodies, like we do the Getting Real column. John Drye has been very occupied with other things lately ...

Art, Android is a lot harder to test because you need to replicate the problem ... some Androids work okay, others don't work so well and we almost need to go out and get one of every model to find out why.

As to working on new products versus fixing existing issues, it's not either or. But with a business, even if the roof is leaking, you can't just stop doing business and fix the roof - you have to keep doing business until you can get enough funds to fix the roof - in the meantime you just put buckets under the leaks.

If we stopped doing new things, our meager revenue stream would dry up and we'd cease to exist - which I suppose is another way to solve your problem - we could just go away because we couldn't afford to keep the lights on.

I totally get the need to fix Android issues - but if someone wants to loan us their particular device for a few weeks once we can pay a developer to look into the issues, that could really help. When you can't afford to pay developers (yet) to work on the issues, when will you have the funds to go buy one of every device people are using so you can duplicate and debug the issues?

I am not real pleased with the mag on the I phone either although it works I feel like I just opened an n scale size magazine. The contacts are hard to use because I still have big fingers. I might like it on an I pad or similar device better. I like the magazine just fine on my big apple desk top though and think it is the best magazine I subscribe to.

Before I buy one of those note book computers which ones work best with your magazine and have no issues. If I want to solve problems I'll work on a locomotive thank you.

All kidding aside Joe what are the most reliable platforms for your magazine as I spend most of my internet time here.

Thanks

P.S Art I hope you get yours sorted out and keep posting your nice videos I like watching them.

Facebook not necessary

Absolutely, you can access TrainMasters TV without joining Facebook.  The FB page exists to keep the Facebook community updated on day-to-day happenings with the show, but the real action will be at the TrainMasters TV website at http://www.trainmasters.tv and at the TrainMasters TV forums here at MRH.  You can preview video at the website starting next week.

iPhones and iPads, etc.

Trying to view a first class e-publication like MRH on these mobile devices is much like trying to haul 10 tons of dirt in a 1 ton truck. Be thankful for what has been provided and, if it is not as good as on a PC, then use the PC. Mobile devices are not made for fat-fingered use - they are made for "little people". That is the reality of it all. There ARE physical limitations in this world that, no matter what you do, cannot be overcome (at least not without megabucks thrown into the mix).

Make sure you use the portrait format

Make sure you use the portrait format on smartphones and 7" tablets. It's designed to be as workable as possible on those smaller screens.

Unfortunately, some of our advertisers still haven't quite got in the groove on how to format ads that look good on small screens as well as large ones. BLMA, ExactRail, FastTracks, and Rapido are among the ones who do get formatting ads for all screen sizes.
