I've Sketched using white pencil Hope you can see it, also the blurry lines are where I erased earlier attempts. also the 2 photos shown were the only 2 of 6 that would show up on camera the white lines I used for sketching the backdrop.

Well I've painted the first 24 feet of my Back Drop with a sky Blue and allowed it a week to dry. Next I collected all the photos of the Rocky Mountains near where the Rio Grande Southern ran and tried my hand at sketching them on my back drop. I think I have now got the sketching to the size I wanted. This is after about 5 tries and alot of Erasing. the final sketch is in white pencil I hope you can see it. next I'll start painting the under coat of the mountains. This is something I've never done before in a large mural or Back drop and so I'm learning as I go. over the years I done a few landscapes using water colors but those were on paper maybe 18 by 24 inches at the largest this is the first 48 inch tall X 24 feet long mural and if it doesn't work I'll have to spend in excess of $600.00 to buy the back drops I want up to cover the entire Railroad. I'll keep posting as I go and as someone once said "let your inner artist out" I just hope he's in here somewhere.

What I can see of the sketch

looks pretty good, Dan.  I know the painting and getting the colours right will be much tougher, but keep at it and let's see what it looks like when you've done some.  Perhaps some tips from the more experienced guys at backdrops will help you along the way.

Wow!

Fantastic painting Tom!  I wish I had talent like yours.  Painting a backdrop is one of the MRR tasks that scares me.  Thanks for sharing that.

Nice art work Tom. I have a couple other posts where I was trying different ways of painting the back drop . I've always been good at drawing but when it comes to putting the paint on the drawing something gets lost in the process. But I'm working on it
