Walthers HO Crane Weathering Continues

I've added reflective striping on the sides and both front and back of the crane. JKTrains was kind enough to send me the reflective tape purchased at his local ACE hardware store. I looked at decals, but I think the tape looks much better. It's not too thick either IMHO.

Very nice scenery

Very nice scenery though!

I'm experimenting with 20watt LED floods. One was placed on boxes out of shot a couple of feet to the left. I like the crisp shadows they give.  The LEDs are 'bright white' and a bit of fiddling with the camera's white balance helps with the colours.

I'm having 'fun' taking down

I'm having 'fun' taking down my H0 layout and preparing for the new N scale Georgetown & Allen Mountain Railroad. I cut off the ends of the two peninsulas, what's left is going to be used for the new layout.

Richlawn RR V2 Layout room as of today

Yes, the picture is poorly stitched together; however, it can give you a basic idea.  This is a view standing at the door with the windows on the left and looking to the back of the room.  I've started putting the full size track plan printout on the bench top.

Mike you pulled the tea leaves from that area

I know it was an accident but it I thought it was a great way to suggest a high water event that had happened

OK. Just a little more

Here is a section of the re painted backdrop that didn't make it on last weekend's WPF. Mistakenly, there was a double of one of the pictures last weekend. Now, combined, 97% of my new attempt has been shown.zz%20(3).jpg zzz.jpg zz%20(2).jpg

Limestone Tipple at Fife BC

I spent the last week working on my rendition of a limestone tipple owned by Consolidated Mining and Smelting (COMINCO) at Fife BC.  The Limestone was used as flux for the huge Cominco smelter at Trail BC.

I still have to add the trestle to bring the limestone to the tipple...but now to get ready for up coming operating sessions including Vanrail 2013 in less than a month!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Walthers City Station Upgrades

If you'll excuse the pink foam, this is a depot I completed recently. It is a Walthers kit, with aftermarket lighting added. I also added window shades, though they are hard to see in some of the pictures, benches, and a neon Amtrak sign. It still needs people though.

Cassette completed

The first stage of the remake to Ghost River Rwy. was the installation of the cassette support and the completion of the cassette. Here's the cassette support, pictures of the cassette from each end outside and with the cassette installed.

Just a Photo Diorama

"Might lower the boom as it looks odd with the crane going into a tunnel with the boom up or is it coming out with the boom up?  Either way it is taller than the top of the tunnel and looks odd that way. Eric H" I know. Its just a diorama I use to take pictures of all rolling stock or loco's. The crane was never meant to actually run on it. It runs on my 11X7 shelf layout.

"limestone tipple owned by Consolidated Mining and Smelting"

Looks like one of those miners tossed his old couch cushions on top of the loads? The joys of living in the boondocks :> ).....DaveB

an innovative use for couch cushions

...good eye.

Yep those miners, and even the train crews in the boondocks, find it difficult to read those eensy weency numbers on the sides of the rail cars so they just throw different coloured seat cushions on the cars to tell everyone where the cars are bound.  Sure saves them from toting around a lot of paperwork!  Quite an innovative bunch!

No, it's gone. I'm back to N scale and that means American. Being a German turned out not to be enough to have a German railroad !

Great photos everyone

I did manage to get some stills the other day when I shot the video. This is one I like to think would depict a cool early fall morning in Slaty Fork. This goes along with the video I posted in another thread. The lighting through the trees in this case is added in processing since I was indoors.

"miners find it difficult to read those eensy weency numbers"

Leave a bucket of paint and a long handled roller by the tipple and let them tag the cars with distinctive miner graffiti? They are bound to run out of worn out household items one of these days? ..DaveB

Scratchbuilt Southern Pacific auto parts boxcar

Lots of nice photos, guys.  Here is my contribution.  This is a car I am currently scratchbuilding.  It's an SP B-70-19 86 foot auto parts car.  The starting point was a used Athearn blue box car.  I utilized the doors, ends, and underframe, but fabricated the rest of the body.  It's awaiting a trip to the paint shop, but I think it looks nice as it is, what do you think?

IMG_0771.JPG

I forgot to take out the too-large Kadee #5 coupler I used to test the car on the layout!

Old but serviceable

The Pacific Western is normally only trodden by 4 axle power which is adequate for normal traffic levels, but with a derailment on a connecting road there was a surge of through traffic detouring over the line and resulting heavier trains. Pacific Western management looked to the stored serviceable line and hauled out two of the big GE's, much to the delight of local railfans. Looking old and tired the GE's, never the less, kept the traffic moving.
