After seventeen months in development, Fast Tracks has launched The Diamond Line.

Diamond Line crossing kits take the construction of detailed crossings to a whole new level! Once the most difficult pieces of trackwork to build crossings are now the easiest. Precision-designed nickel silver castings, developed and produced in-house by Fast Tracks take all the guesswork out of building a single, double and even a quad diamond. Diamond Line castings are designed to work in unison with matching laser cut ties. The castings are simply pressed and glued in place into pre-cut pockets in the ties. Track gauging and electrical gapping are all taken care of in one simple step.  Innovative pockets in the casting allow for matching rail to be simply slid in and soldered in place.

Each kit includes everything needed to build one crossing.

Included in the kit are:

  • Individual frog castings and guard rail castings - mounted on laser cut bases to aid in polishing and cleaning
  • Matching precision laser cut ties - precisely matched to the castings
  • Copperhead PC board ties - PC board ties are used to anchor the rail in place
  • Enough matching rail to build one single crossing - rail is pre-cut to length
  • 2 320 grit sanding blocks - laser cut sanding blocks are used to polish the tops of the castings
  • 2 600 grit sanding blocks
  • Wirebrush - a steel wirebrush makes quick work of polishing the raw castings, improving soldering

The initial launch is for HO scale, 90° crossings, in code 70, 83 and 100 rail. Each of these is available in a Single, Double and Quad configuration. Additional angles will follow in HO scale. N scale crossing kits are in development will be released soon.  Other scales will follow.

Create a showpiece easily and quickly on your layout with a Diamond Line crossing kit!

Sweet!

These will be handy, all the little fiddley parts of crossings make them time consuming. Now they just need to decide on what angle crossings to offer.....DaveB

Next up will be HO scale 30

Next up will be HO scale 30 degree crossings, followed by 14 degree. We will be working our way through the most popular sizes.

Wonderful

Each time FT announce a new product it's always an innovation.

I'm a big user of the rail fixture in N scale from FT

So now I hope to see this system coming in N scale.

Thanks a lot Tim

Direct flex track attaching?

Tim,

After you saw the pictures of the direct flex track connection to the castings as done by this English gentleman and posted on your FB page, are you considering changing/simplifying the Diamond Line like that?

There is nothing to change,

There is nothing to change, can plug flextrack into the castings as they are.

I like it!

I think this is a great product on two levels. Besides the general usefulness of a complete crossing frog casting, the kit is a way to "get your feet wet" building track components without having to take the full plunge for a fixture and all the tools.

I hope that in the future when the initial wave of demand for the kits is satisfied that the castings will be available for purchase by themselves, for those who already have bought into the jig system and have all the other bits on hand and are willing to lay their own loose ties.

You can call me EW. Here's my blog index

Castings

I should have been more clear with my question: the current SKU includes the castings, the tie strip, pieces of rail, a few PCB ties, metal bristle brush, sanding blocks, etc. If people are going to direct connect with flex, those items are all unused materials as all one would be needed is the 4 castings, a minimal diamond tie strip and some proper glue for direct flex attachment. That would result in less materials to stock, less materials and less time to assemble a SKU into its packaging (the way you package your products is top notch BTW), less weight to ship, etc. So such a simplified SKU could be a win-win?

The only items that wouldn't

The only items that wouldn't be needed would be the rail and the PC board ties. Removing these would only make a difference of a couple dollars. Adding and maintaining an additional sku is surprisingly more involved that it would seem...
