Calamitous circumstances have delayed the mid February MRH issue, explained by editor Joe Fugate.  We offer  condolences to Joe and family regarding the loss of his mom this month,   and currently Oregon is recovering from a severe ice storm.

For those not getting emails from MRH, this video:

February MRH and RE are delayed.

Anything Joe is saying about MRH also applies to Running Extra.

Sorry. I didn’t see your circumstances. My condolences for your mother.

by the way, I really like your articles about tools, methods, resources, etc.

im sure you covered all this. $3 high quality can motors, $1 cellphone speakers, etc. things are getting better. Also, I’m a big fan of the gold pin connectors from China. Expensive——$9 for about 50 of them. I have about 40 brass locos and I’ve used the connectors on all of them  also remotered about five, and used the cellphone speaker on most of them. Very satisfied.

Joe-condolences on the loss

Joe-condolences on the loss of your Mother.  Shades of the east coast's Super Storm Sandy several years ago when Rail Model Craftsman went through a similar situation with an extended power outage.

Sorry for your loss.

Joe:

Sometimes life gives us lemons, so got out and make lemonade. I am deeply sorry for the loss of your mother.

So, try to look on the bright side. Did you want to take the tree down anyway? Did you need a new window for the car?

Seriously, we have all had these situations. The February magazine will be out when you are ready to bring it out. We can wait. This is almost like Christmas morning when we are anticipating opening a gift.

I hope that your employees, family, and you remained safe during the storm.

My condolences Joe

I understand how you have been split between your profession and your family. I was a hospice nurse for several years and I have seen caregiver fatigue, frustration and inability to do all things for everyone. I am sorry that before you could greave for your mother you were fighting for your home and your property and your magazine. You’re in a tough place, I can see it in your face, hear it in your voice. Don’t worry, I love your magazine, but I am willing to wait. It will be great as always. God bless you Joe, your family and sister. Time heals and things work because of friends. Best wishes to you all. I guess I should say, to y’all. I am from Louisiana. Where we, too, are having a serving of snow, ice and confusion!

Just some rambling thoughts.

Instead of labeling the magazine by month, or even date, just use an issue number. January is issue #27. You even show that when downloaded. So the next issue will be #28, whether it's 2/15, 2/20 or even 3/1. And you, Joe, can just put the magazine out as often as you can manage. And if I get issue #1 in January, issue #2 will be the next - whether it's in February or not. And to overload this with more useless info. When it's actually issued, put that date on the cover so we have a permanent record of that. But the magazine is no longer called "the January issue", but "the 27th issue". Or is this too simple?  And this way, I can look forward to issue #1,100,111. Finally, you could always go back to volume #, issue #. Your choice! Another final thought. You could simply set renewals for every 12 issues, no matter then they come out. So, maybe in some years, we get 12 issues, some 13 and others only 11. But the renewals would occur only after 12.

You forget who's paying for this

That’s fine for readers, but that won’t work at all for advertisers. Many advertisers time their ads to a general magazine release date and if they can’t count on the magazine being released more or less by a given date, they’ll be angry that they’re not getting their money’s worth.

And advertisers still pay for the majority of the production costs, so what they expect is what we must do.

I understand.

Joe. That's because you have to comply with their wishes.I don't. Perhaps an advertiser who reads this may have a solution. I for one, would love to have my sources/importers/manufacturers/LHS be pleased with me. Or your advertisers be pleased with what you do for them. I still like the issue #. or vol/iss. It's similar to page number. I keep a spreadsheet with that info available. So, when I need to search back issues for an particular item, I can locate it with a simple search. My personal spreadsheet is easier for me than the one offered. I can't click a link, but that's why I also keep your index also. And I keep all issues and my index on a flash drive to preserve them. Your MRH and RE are the best there is. Far superior to MR and RMC for digital. And with my flash drive, can access any article or whatever I wish. It's the spreadsheet that must have enough detail to provide instant access. I code everything PRR and can do that simple search to bring up each and every cell in the spreadsheet for every issue you ever put out. And can do this off line, on any PC or laptop. However, it's only online that I can click on your advertiser. And that's where you are certainly correct. Thanks for reminding me. "You the Man!"

Both came through!

This is just to let y'all know that the initial MRH downloaded fine. Saw no apparent errors. The MRH RE has now also downloaded. Again, no apparent errors. Thanks! And Joe: let us know how the repairs to your storm damage are coming along. Here in TX, the freeze is over. But no water pressure. As for driving. We haven't done any for 5 days. Today was the first and the roads are now clear. And if I read correctly, once your storm passed, your temps went up. Ours went down. -2º. That may not sound bad to you folks up in OR or WA or BC for that matter. But for TX, that was brutal!
