***Major winter storm *** No power at MRH HQ until mid-next week! No internet! Mag release WILL NOT MAKE THE 15th without internet or power. ***

Best laid plans ... Feb 10-14 were crucial to getting MRH and Running Extra out on time this month since we’ve not been in the office for the last 10 days due to the death of my mother taking us out of the office Feb 1-10.
*************

***UPDATE Sunday, Feb 14 ***
Could be up to 72hrs (3 days) before power or internet due to Friday’s massive ice storm. Latest weather report is a possible second ice storm tonight! Doesn’t look like any big weather warming until Thu, Feb 18. Once we do get back up and running, it’s still 3-4 days after that to issue release. If we’re lucky, the Feb issue might actually come out in Feb, sheesh.
*************

***UPDATE Monday, Feb 15 ***
Updated ETA for power and internet is now Feb 19, which puts the total outage duration at 7 days. That puts magazine release at circa February 23rd. The biggest negative is advertisers who paid us for exposure in February and now it’s going to be almost March before any Feb magazines see the light of day. What a disaster.
**************

***UPDATE Tuesday, Feb 16 ***
Power and internet are back! MRH has been reviewed by the staff and corrections entered. Running Extra is now out for the final staff review. Next up today: Placing ads in MRH. At this point, am expecting to release MRH to the website for “quiet release” (one day of bake in) very late on the 18th, with full release of MRH (come and get it email blast) and Running Extra released late in the day on the 19th. What a relief!
**************

Just as we started the process of getting the mags finalized, a major winter storm hit and tree branches are breaking everywhere. We’ve had two tree branches hit our house but fortunately no damage. One tree did snap in half and hit one of our cars, broke the back window. Meanwhile the power went out and they’re saying it could be until the storm eases that they can get the power back. Could be as late as Mon or Tue.

We live in a forested area and as I sit here in the dark and quiet, I can hear trees snapping and breaking all around us.

It will get out when it gets out. Been a totally crazy month.

With no power until sometime next week, the new magazine release date is now the 20th. No power, no internet and charging our phones in the car. Very primitive living conditions for the next few days. We did have one tree fall on a car and damage it. What a mess!

Not a problem

Take your time, the priority is keeping your family and yourself safe, keeping your house intact, and only then worrying about working on the magazines.  I'm sitting here tonight after having to call the oil company twice today for breakdowns of my furnace in sub-freezing weather.  If I lost power, I'd be stuck relying on my wood stove on the porch to keep just one room of the house even vaguely habitable, and even then it'd be damned uncomfortable.

Good luck.  You've endured a couple weeks none of us would want to go through.

Hang in there!

We experience the same conditions in the Northeast Joe!  Power goes out and we're in for a few days to a week before it comes back.

It is hitting Texas this

It is hitting Texas this weekend. My motorcycle is at work covered in ice. Still have power at home and at work so I do not envy you stuck with out power. As always I will read it when it gets here, and enjoy it then. We are having unusually cold weather right now, and the weather is talking about below zero in the coming days.

Be safe and warm and take care of yourselves. Again sorry for your recent loss.

Take your time Joe and pay

Take your time Joe and pay attention to your personal problems first. I don't envy you living 'in the forest' in a snow and ice storm. I'm liking my spot here in Florida, ......a few cold breezes, but no snow or ice

I do recall going thru a ice/snow event while living in Bethesda MD one yr. It was very close to when i first got restarted in the hobby. We had lost all power due to downed power lines. I set up some candle power and ended up building a plastruct truss bridge under candle light. Eventually used that bridge on my first layout.

Best of luck

Gotta Love the Weather

Or not.

Sorry to hear about your mom. It is never easy losing a close relative of any kind.

A caution about hiring tree trimers to clean up the mess. We had 3 ice storms in this area back in 2006 or 07. 3 inches of ice before it was all over. Branches and trees of all sizes lay everywhere and in our case we could not even open our garage door let alone get out of the driveway.

And that was when I found out about tree trimers. It seems that some will spread a lie that the best way to clean up a heavily damaged tree is to litterly cut off everything except a small crown at the very top and even that is very very short. Looks ugly and is not necessary or good for the tree. The trees that got this treatment were all deciduous trees. 15 years later it is still obvious that they had gotten a bad hair cut.

And it took 11 days to get the power back on. I really hope your recovery is quicker.

Tired of the cold and ready for spring.   Jack

All understandable!

Joe, our condolences for the passing of your mother.  She had a great son to help her along.

As for weather, sometimes it's best to stay on the ground.  I know a guy that will get your land lines back in order PDQ...

Enjoy the sun when it shines again.

The Magazine will be Here When It gets Here...

The magazine will be done when you have the ability. No power is no fun! Hearing the breaking of branches doesn't help either. Family first Joe, the rest will take care of itself in due time.

Tree damaged one of our cars

Trees crashed and fell all around us ... one hit one of our cars and damaged it. What a mess. It’s now official ... no power until sometime next week.

Joe,Sorry to hear about

Joe,

Sorry to hear about the passing of your Mom. No worries on the magazine, it will get done when it gets done.

Insurance will handle any damage, hopefully, and the power will come back eventually. This is the first house we have had with a generator and it has been useful for outages a few times. No inexpensive, but nice when you need it.

Magazine publication schedule.

My sympathy to you and your family for the loss of your mother. At times like this, you need to take as much time as you need for your family, don't worry about missing some deadline for the magazine.

Death and loss

I am sorry to hear about your mother's death.  Caring for yourself and family is of utmost importance.  As Psalm 23 says, at least to me, we will walk through that valley and what it offers.  But it also says we have Someone walking with us.  BTDT.

Take the time you need.

I'm sure when the power comes back on you'll be silly crazy busy catching up but until then this gives you a chance to slow down, take a deep breath and have some quality family time. Life before the internet...In some ways I miss it. Our sincere condolences to you and your family on the passing of your mother.

Yes you will live ... but

Yes you will live but advertisers have paid us for exposure in the month of February and they will not be happy with us since they’re not getting what they paid for. We'll have to figure out something to somehow compensate them for all the lost days of exposure, and they’re the ones paying!

Joe, you have my sincere

Joe, you have my sincere sympathies on the passing of your mother, and with the storm damage and everything else it has got to be a bit overwhelming.   We appreciate the candor about it, and I think most of us are pretty understanding that sometimes the perfect storm hits - no pun intended - and you have to take care of you and your family first.

When dad passed away a few years ago,  I took almost a month off my day job and ISE to get things in order initially.   Things went on hold, projects were late, but  everyone was pretty understanding about it until I could get back to them.   I can't speak for everyone, but at least from this one small advertiser...  don't sweat it, we're good.
